SSRS setup for internal use on SBS 2008 - easy to connect for windows users

I wanted to create some reports based on SQL server running on SBS 2008. The SSRS reporting services had been setup once before to run under Sharepoint, but this had never been used before, so I tried to get rid of this, but wound up with a reporting services site that kept using https to connectn, it was not obvious to users (to me neither). When browsing to the pages they had to enter their windows account name and password, sometimes 2x. Finally I got rid of it by fixing 2 things: 1. in Reporting Services Configuration Manager - connect to the server - under 'Web Service url' - Web service certificate - click on the 'Advanced...' button. - under 'Multiple SSL identities' - remove the identities 2. Edit rsreportserver.config - in the 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10.\Reporting Services\ReportServer' folder - edit the rsreportserver.config file - change the key SecureConnectionLevel to 0 - stop and start the reporting service with the configuration manager That gave the sbs windows users immediate access to the reports in the reportserver.

Creation of the virtual directory failed

On attempting to open project in VS2008/2010, I got the following message:
The local IIS URL http://localhost/MyApp specified for Web project DemoWebsite has not been configured. In order to open this project the virtual directory needs to be configured. Would you like to create the virtual directory now?

On clicking yes, I got the following error:

Creation of the virtual directory http://localhost/MyApp failed with the error: The URL 'http://localhost/' is already mapped to a different folder location.

The rest of the solution opened all right, but the above project did not; it was marked as unavailable.

Solution (I am working on a Vista machine):
Close VS.
Start IIS management
look in the in the localhost website and delete MyApp (your visual studio wil recreate it for you anyway).
Open the solution with VS2008/2010 and answer yes when asked to create the virtual directory.

Another solution to this problem I found on Neil Pullinger's blog
Creation of the virtual directory failed

But the Solution is for the main localhost site http://localhost, not for http://localhost/MyApp.
Here is the tekst of his solution:

... I right-clicked the project node in the solution explorer and selected the option to edit the project (.csproj) file. Near the bottom of the file, I found the following:

http://localhost/

I edited this entry to add a virtual directory:

http://localhost/myapp

Having saved the change, I then right-clicked the project node in the solution explorer again and reloaded the project. When I was prompted to create the virtual directory again, the creation was successful and the project checked out. The virtual directory is created under the running web site in IIS (on Windows XP).

Windows Phone 7 needs Zune player on PC

From the microsoft windows phone site
'The Zune software is the tool you need to sync your music, videos, and pictures between your computer and your phone. You also need it to get any updates. To learn more, see Sync files with my phone.'

Before I read the above I thought you could just browse the apps with your phone, download and install it? That might have been a tad too easy. No sir, when you are hanging from a mountain cliff in the Andes mountain range and you browse your phone to get an app that might come in quite handy, all you need to do is go home, boot up your pc, run the zune player, download the app, connect your phone to your pc, install the app and go back to your mountain cliff.

Windows Phone 7 - Mail Accounts

Gmail and Hotmail are quite easy to configure. A lot easier than on the iPhone. I had to set up a Gmail account for one of my customers on hist iPhone and it is quite technical. On Windows 7 all you need to provide are the email address and the password, then save it and you can start reading/writing your e-mails.
Setting up your Facebook account to use your friends as contacts in your phone 7: create the facebook account with email address and facebook password and you are ready to go.
So far so good.

Windows Phone 7 - received my LG E900

Yesterday I received my first Windows Phone 7: the LG E900.
First thing I did was charge the battery.
Then remove my SIM card from my old mobile phone and put it in the LG.
worked immediately to read Text messages, but found little or no contacts from my SIM card, those that were on there did not even contain their phone number.
